Another Driveway Moment

Much to my children’s dismay, I am an NPR Junkie. My car radio is tuned 24/7 to public radio and it is addictive! Because of this personal problem, I continue to experience many “driveway moments”. You know, you’re listening to a story and suddenly you arrive at your destination. If time permits, I might just sit in my car for the next half hour listening intently. However, because this is not always practical, I frequently have to download the Podcast so that I don’t miss a moment. As simple as it may seem, discovering this application changed my life!  For those of you reading this blog, you may be aware that I am attempting to expand my very limited “social media” knowledge by taking a class with educators who are totally embracing the latest and greatest technology. Ironically, last week on NPR’s Morning Edition, the timely topic of physicians using digital devices in the hospitals was featured. It was stated that some doctors have eagerly embraced these tools while others fear that these gadgets can be distracting and dangerous to patient safety. If you have an extra 5 minutes to listen, I guarantee you will be entertained. Let me know what you think.

  1. The podcast brings up "continuous partial attention" due to mobile technology, and that directly correlates to the article I posted about "Boon or Bane?" The explosion of the use of these technologies requires us to put acceptable use norms in place, and reminds educators of the importance of teaching the responsible uses of these personal devices. Your blog is beautiful Joanne! I'm jealous.

  2. Your blog is beautiful Joanne, great job! Love how you incorporated a podcast into your post. Sounds like Doctor's and hospitals are going through the same growing pains with technology as schools. Technology is powerful and can be very beneficial, but needs to be used responsibly.
